Campbell Brothers: catering butchers and fresh meat suppliers

Campbell Brothers is Bidfood's fresh meat brand and a specialist catering butcher. We cut British beef, lamb, pork and poultry to order at our two butchery sites and deliver it into professional kitchens across England, Scotland and Wales, alongside the rest of your Bidfood order. Founded in 1902, we combine the knowledge of a local butcher with the reliability of a national foodservice supplier, so chefs get the cut they asked for, at the specification they asked for, on the day they need it.

Same  ·  Changed Header, nav and breadcrumb are template furniture and stay as they are. The current H1, "We believe great meat starts with great sourcing", is a slogan: no product, no service, no brand name, so nothing in it matches how a caterer searches. The new one names the entity and what it is, a catering butcher (570 a month, difficulty 8). The intro is rewritten to stand alone, because the live version opens with "That's why" and reads as a fragment in a snippet or an AI answer. One CTA only in the hero. The sticky header already carries Become a customer, and the range section below covers browsing far better, species by species. Three equal buttons signal no priority at all, and they push the accreditation strip down the page, which is the wrong order when the reader has not yet been given a reason to trust the brand.
Accreditations and standardsNew
BRCGS certified sites
Red Tractor approved supplier
QMS assured (Bonnyrigg site)
Halal accredited depots
Client to confirm Certificate numbers, issuing bodies, scope and expiry for each mark, plus permission to display each logo. These four are taken from campbellbrothers.co.uk as published on 3 September 2026; we will not put a badge on a Bidfood page without the client confirming it is current.
New Four marks added below the intro, where the live page carries none. The biggest single Trust gain here, and it costs the client nothing: all four are already stated on campbellbrothers.co.uk, just on the wrong domain. Scope each one exactly as they state it. QMS covers the Bonnyrigg site, not London, and Red Tractor means approved supplier, not that the whole range is assured. Overstating a mark is worse than omitting it. Use the real logos as images with alt text, and mirror them in Organization.hasCertification. Hover any mark for its scope.

Why caterers choose Campbell Brothers

New

Four short proof points, each one a fact the client can evidence, not a claim.

Cut to your spec

Portion weights, trim levels and cuts prepared to your sheet by skilled butchers, not picked from a fixed pack list.

Fully traceable

British and Irish sourcing with traceability back through the supply chain, supported by BRCGS certified premises.

One delivery

Fresh meat arrives with the rest of your Bidfood order, so you are not managing a separate butcher account and a separate delivery.

Butchers since 1902

Over a century of catering butchery, from single-site independents through to Michelin kitchens and national contracts.

New The page currently asks the reader to trust it without giving them a reason. This block answers "why you and not the butcher down the road" in the first screen after the intro, which is what a buyer is actually deciding. It is also the section most likely to be lifted verbatim into an AI Overview, because it is four self-contained factual statements rather than prose.

We also prepare sausages, burgers, game, charcuterie and offal. For frozen meat and poultry, see Bidfood's wider meat and poultry range.

Changed "Our range" is currently one sentence, an empty image and a link into a Bidfood Direct search string. Splitting it into the four species gives the page the product vocabulary it is missing entirely, and gives us four natural anchor points. The closing line is the most important internal link on the page: it points at /our-products/our-range/meat-poultry/, which already sits at position 2 for "wholesale meat supplier" (UK desktop, 2 September 2026). This page should feed that one, not compete with it.

Butchery expertise and bespoke cutting

Changed

Our butchers work to your specification rather than a catalogue. That means portion control to a set gram weight for costed menus, seam butchery for cuts that are not on a standard list, and advice on which cut delivers the result you want at the price you need to hit.

Our fresh meat specialists also help with menu development, yield and cost per portion, so you can see what a change of cut does to your gross profit before it goes on the menu.

Meet our experts
Photograph of named butchers at work in Bonnyrigg or Woolwich. Experience signal, not stock imagery.
Changed Currently a card with the heading "Our experts" and one line of text. "Our experts" is an internal label; it tells a search engine nothing and tells a chef nothing. The new heading names the service (bespoke cutting, portion control), which is a genuine differentiator against an online box supplier, and the copy gives the child page something to be linked from in context rather than from a bare card.

Sourcing, traceability and animal welfare

Changed

We work directly with selected British and Irish farmers and suppliers, with animal welfare, provenance and traceability built into how we buy. Our Bonnyrigg butchery site is Quality Meat Scotland assured, giving a provenance guarantee on the Scottish supply.

  • Approved supplier list with regular audit
  • Traceability from farm through to the delivery note
  • Red Tractor, Freedom Food and outdoor reared pork options
  • BRCGS certified butchery premises

Farm or supplier photograph. Ideally a named farm the client is happy to identify.
Changed Sourcing is the strongest Experience and Trust asset the brand has and it is currently a one-line card. Naming schemes, breeds and audit process turns a claim into evidence. This is also where the page earns the right to talk about welfare and sustainability, which are decision factors for school, care home and contract catering buyers in particular.

Our butchery sites and delivery coverage

New

Campbell Brothers North, Bonnyrigg

Our Scottish butchery site on the outskirts of Edinburgh, serving Scotland and the north.

Client to confirm full address, coverage area and cut-off times.

Campbell Brothers South, Woolwich

Our London butchery site, serving London, the south and the wider English network.

Client to confirm full address, coverage area and cut-off times.

Fresh meat is delivered nationwide across England, Scotland and Wales through the Bidfood depot network, on the same delivery as the rest of your order. Find your nearest depot.

New Two real butchery sites with real butchers in them is the clearest Experience signal the brand owns, and the page does not mention either. It also answers the question every new buyer asks first, which is whether you cover them. "Catering butchers near me" runs at 90 searches a month and there is a Map Pack on the wholesale meat SERPs, so physical premises matter here. Addresses and cut-off times are flagged rather than guessed.

Who we supply

New

From single-site independents to national contracts. Every name below is a contextual internal link to the matching Bidfood sector page.

Restaurants and pubs

Steak cuts to a set portion weight, consistent trim, and the flexibility to change spec as menus change.

Hotels and leisure

Volume covers for banqueting and events alongside à la carte cuts, on one delivery.

Schools and universities

Assured sourcing, allergen and nutrition information, and specifications that hold to a per-head budget.

Care homes and hospitals

Texture-appropriate cuts, traceable supply and reliable delivery windows for kitchens working to fixed meal times.

Contract and B&I catering

Consistent supply across multiple sites, with a single account and one set of specifications.

Dark kitchens and delivery

Portioned, prepared cuts that keep production times predictable in a high-throughput kitchen.

New This does two jobs. It tells a buyer "we serve people like you", which is the qualifying question, and it gives the page ten relevant internal links out to commercially important sector pages, from a page that currently has no in-copy links at all. It also adds the audience vocabulary ("meat suppliers for restaurants", 90 a month, £3.06 CPC) that the page is missing.

Our story: catering butchers since 1902

Changed

Campbell Brothers began in 1902 as a small Scottish family butcher. Over more than a century we have grown into one of the UK's established catering butchers, and today we are Bidfood's dedicated fresh meat brand, operating as part of Bidfresh within Bidcorp UK.

That backing gives our customers something a local butcher usually cannot offer: national delivery, financial stability and the technical and food safety resource of a large group, without losing the butchery skill the business was built on.

Read our full story
Archive or heritage image. Client to supply.
Changed The date is the asset. "Founded in 1902" and "over a century" are the kind of specific, checkable facts that AI answers and knowledge panels pick up, and they are currently only on the sister site. This section also states the corporate relationship in plain words, which matters because the relationship between Campbell Brothers, Bidfresh and Bidfood is genuinely unclear to anyone outside the group.

Frequently asked questions

New
Is Campbell Brothers part of Bidfood?+
Yes. Campbell Brothers is Bidfood's dedicated fresh meat brand, operating as part of Bidfresh within Bidcorp UK. Fresh meat is cut at our own butchery sites and delivered through the Bidfood network.
Do I need a Bidfood account to order Campbell Brothers meat?+
Client to confirm the exact answer, including whether existing Campbell Brothers customers order separately or through MyBidfood.
What accreditations do you hold?+
Our Edinburgh and London butchery sites are BRCGS accredited and halal accredited. We are an approved supplier of Red Tractor products, and our Bonnyrigg site is Quality Meat Scotland assured. Client to confirm certificate numbers and scope.
Where do you source your meat?+
Primarily from British and Irish farmers and suppliers on our approved list, with traceability maintained through the supply chain. Some cuts are sourced overseas where UK supply or specification requires it.
Can you cut meat to a bespoke specification?+
Yes. Our butchers work to your specification, including set portion weights, trim levels and cuts that are not on a standard list. Talk to your fresh meat specialist about a spec sheet.
Which areas do you deliver to, and how quickly?+
We deliver across England, Scotland and Wales through the Bidfood depot network. Client to confirm lead times and order cut-off times before we state them.
Do you supply halal meat?+
Both our London and Edinburgh butchery sites are halal accredited. Client to confirm the certifying body and which products are covered.
Do you supply smaller independent caterers?+
Yes. We supply single-site pubs and restaurants as well as national contracts. Client to confirm whether any minimum order applies.
New Eight questions, drawn from what a buyer actually needs to know before they will pick up the phone, not from a keyword tool. Four of the eight are ones the current site answers nowhere. Note that four answers are flagged: we would rather publish six confirmed FAQs than eight with two guesses in them. Worth adding: the People Also Ask box appears on both the "campbell brothers" and "wholesale meat supplier" SERPs, so there is a live extraction target here.

Most readers of this page will already buy from Bidfood and simply want to add fresh meat, and there is no path for them. The author and reviewer block is new: a named Bidfood writer plus a named Campbell Brothers butcher or technical manager as reviewer is the cheapest Expertise signal available, and the author name already exists in the page metadata.

Same Newsletter block and footer stay as they are. Worth noting that "Stay up to date with Bidfood" is an H2 in the current markup, which is fine, but it should sit after the page's own content rather than being the last substantive heading, which is effectively what it is today.

What's changed, and why

Fibre Marketing. SERP and volume data pulled 2 September 2026 (Mangools, UK desktop). Site checks 3 September 2026.

Decide this first. Campbell Brothers has its own live site, campbellbrothers.co.uk, which ranks first in the UK for "campbell brothers". This Bidfood page is not on page one for its own brand name, and the two share near-identical copy. Until the group decides what each site is for, nothing below will work properly.

Where the page is now

Roughly 200 words of body copy, a slogan for an H1, no accreditations, no FAQs, no in-copy internal links, no visible author, and a range section that is one sentence, an empty image and a search link. It is invisible for its own brand name and adds nothing to the terms Bidfood cares about commercially.

CheckedFound
SERP, "campbell brothers" (420/mo, KD 37)campbellbrothers.co.uk at 1. Then Companies House, Wikipedia (an unrelated US gospel group), Facebook, Indeed, Spotify. This page is absent from page one. Map Pack and People Also Ask both present.
SERP, "wholesale meat supplier" (250/mo, KD 17)Bidfood's own /our-range/meat-poultry/ at 2, campbellbrothers.co.uk at 6. Bidfood already holds two assets here.
Copy vs campbellbrothers.co.ukThe intro and the "not just meat" H2 are near-identical to copy on the sister site. Two owned domains, same sentences.
Related demand"catering butchers" 570/mo KD 8. "wholesale butchers" 650/mo KD 19. "meat supplier" 420/mo KD 21. "meat suppliers for restaurants" 90/mo at £3.06 CPC.
Internal linksNone in the body copy. The Birmingham and London Bidfood pages both name Campbell Brothers without linking here. Full depot set needs a crawl.
Accreditation evidenceFour marks stated on campbellbrothers.co.uk, none on this page: BRCGS at both depots, Red Tractor approved supplier, QMS on the Bonnyrigg site, halal at both depots. No published claim to PGI or AHDB.

What this page should be

The Campbell Brothers brand and entity hub inside bidfood.co.uk, doing three jobs: answering who Campbell Brothers are and how they relate to Bidfood, converting existing Bidfood customers into fresh meat buyers, and passing relevance to /our-range/meat-poultry/.

It should not chase "wholesale meat supplier". Bidfood is already at position 2 there with a better-suited page. A third owned URL on the same queries splits the group's own signals.

URL unchanged, no redirects needed. Header, breadcrumb, newsletter, footer and the three child pages all stay as they are, as does the existing WebPage, BreadcrumbList and Organization schema.

Schema

The code below is illustrative. Validated, final markup follows once the page content is signed off and the flagged values are confirmed. Square brackets mark anything we will not publish without the client confirming it.

Already on the page, and correct

WebPage, BreadcrumbList, Organization. Keep all three. The recommendation below extends them rather than replacing them.

1. Campbell Brothers as its own entity, linked to Bidfood

This is the highest-value addition and it is the one that speaks directly to the cross-domain problem. Right now nothing in the markup tells Google that the Campbell Brothers on bidfood.co.uk and the Campbell Brothers on campbellbrothers.co.uk are the same business. sameAs and parentOrganization say it explicitly.

2. Accreditations, as certifications on the organisation

Schema.org added hasCertification and the Certification type in 2024. It does not currently produce a rich result in Google, so treat this as entity and AI-answer groundwork rather than a SERP feature play. It is still worth doing, because it attaches the trust claim to the entity rather than leaving it as a logo in an image.

"hasCertification": [

]

3. FAQPage

Add once the FAQs are live and the flagged answers are confirmed. Be clear with the client about what this does and does not do: Google restricted FAQ rich results to government and health sites in 2023, so this will almost certainly not produce the expandable questions in the SERP. It is worth adding because it structures the answers cleanly for AI Overviews, ChatGPT and other answer engines, which is where the People Also Ask style demand is increasingly being served. Do not sell it to the client as a rich snippet.

{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "FAQPage",
  "mainEntity": [
    { "@type": "Question",
      "name": "Is Campbell Brothers part of Bidfood?",

        "text": "Yes. Campbell Brothers is Bidfood's dedicated fresh meat brand,
                 operating as part of Bidfresh within Bidcorp UK." } }
  ]
}

Only mark up questions that are visibly on the page, with answer text that matches word for word.

4. Author and reviewer on the WebPage

"author": { "@type": "Person", "name": "[name]",
            "jobTitle": "[role]",
            "worksFor": { "@id": "https://www.bidfood.co.uk/#organization" } },

"dateModified": "[date]",
"about": { "@id": ".../campbell-brothers/#organization" }

5. ItemList for the range

A light ItemList over the four species blocks, each item pointing at the relevant range page. Low value on its own, but it makes the page's product coverage machine-readable, which matters for AI retrieval.

What we are deliberately not marking up, and why

TypeWhy not
Product and OfferThere are no products with prices on this page. Bidfood is trade-only with account pricing, so there is no public price to publish. Product markup without a valid offer is a common cause of Merchant Centre and rich result errors, and it would misrepresent the page.
AggregateRating and ReviewThere are no reviews on the page. Marking up ratings that a visitor cannot see is a Google structured data violation and risks a manual action. If the client wants ratings, the reviews need to be collected and displayed first.
LocalBusinessTempting because of the two sites and the Map Pack on the wholesale meat SERPs, but the butchery sites are production premises, not places a customer visits. Marking them as LocalBusiness on a national brand page would send the wrong signal. The Google Business Profile for each site is the right home for local signals, not this page.
Article or NewsArticleThis is a brand page, not editorial. Worth flagging separately that the page currently sets og:type to "article", which should be corrected to "website".
RecipeNo recipes here. If the client later adds chef content, that belongs on the Inspiration hub, not this page.
